Liberty Christian Academy is a Christian school in Lynchburg, Virginia. LCA was founded by Jerry Falwell in 1967 as Lynchburg Christian Academy, and was developed as a ministry of Thomas Road Baptist Church. LCA is recognized as an educational facility by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and the Association of Christian Schools International. Today it is the largest Christian Evangelical school in the country.
LCA was located on the Thomas Road Baptist Church facilities since 1967. In 2005 it was moved to a location adjacent to Liberty University, and was renamed Liberty Christian Academy.
LCA has garnered National recognition for their football program which went 46-1 from 2004-2008, winning three State Championships and boasting the Nation's tenth longest win streak (36 games). LCA is coached by Frank Rocco. Several notable football Alumni include: Rashad Jennings (Pittsburgh-Liberty-Jacksonville Jaguars), Chris Rocco (Liberty), Bobby Massie (Ole Miss), Patrick Kelly (Liberty), Michael Rocco (UVA). The superintendent of LCA is John Patterson and the assistant is Tim Hahn. The Upper School principal (9-12 grades) is Winnie Tabor. The middle school principal (6-8 grades) is Jeff Capps. The Lower School principal (1-5 grades) is Phil Forcey with his assistant Christy Hill. The full school year usually consists of 180 days divided into 4 quarters that are 9 weeks long. The 2011-2012 school year will start on August 24, 2011. The last day of school is TBA.
